History

Nrusinghanath Temple, Gandhamardan Hill (2)

The temple was constructed in the 15th century by King Baijal Singh Dev of the Chauhan dynasty. As per Hindu mythology, Lord Vishnu appeared here as Nrusingha, the half-man, half-lion incarnation, to save his devotee Prahlad from the demon king Hiranyakashyap.

The hill has another legend linked to the Ramayana. It is believed that Lord Hanuman carried a part of the Sanjeevani Mountain from the Himalayas to Lanka and a piece of it fell here. That is why Gandhamardan Hill is full of rare and ancient medicinal herbs and is considered a natural pharmacy.
