History
The Ramachandi Temple is believed to be one of the oldest temples in the region, possibly older than the Sun Temple at Konark. According to local legends, when a Mughal general named Kalapahad came to destroy Hindu temples, Goddess Ramachandi took the form of a village girl and cleverly avoided destruction. The original temple was a small structure close to the sea, but now only remains of the old structure can be seen. A newer temple has been built nearby and is still used for worship.
